MVA w/entrapment Rt.301 & Greenspring Road

At 1510 hrs. Station 3 was alerted for a MVA with entrapment on Rt.301 & Greenspring Road. Rescue 3 & Engine 33  responded from Station 3 with 5 members. Upon arrival Officer 303 (Russum) confirmed 2 vehicles involved with entrapment. Officer 303 established Rt.301 command. Engine 22 also responded on the call and handled the landing zone. 2 patients were flown to Shock Trauma. Equipment cleared the scene at 1603 hrs.

It is with deep sorrow and regret that the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company announces the line of duty passing of Firefighter Gene Kirchner.  Gene succumbed to his injures after an 8 day fight.  He sustained critical injuries while he was performing a search on a dwelling fire April 24, 2013.    Gene is a 9 year member of our company and was a junior fire fighter for 2 years. A full fire department funeral will be scheduled.  More details will follow.

House Fire in the 3-6 Box

At 1444 hrs. Stations 3,2,4 & 1 were alerted for a house fire at 101 Arrington Road. Engine 32, Engine 33, Engine Tanker 3 & Rescue 3 responded from Station 3. While units were responding, Queen Anne advised caller stated fire was spreading. Chief 2 (McCombs) arrived on location first with 1.5 story house heavy fire on the alpha side. Chief 2 established Arrington Road command. Arriving units advanced hand lines and had fire extinguished quickly. Command placed situation under control at approximately 1550 hrs. The last equipment from Station 3 cleared at 1644 hrs.


 
   
   
Odor of smoke in 4-1 Box

At 0817 hrs. Station 3 was alerted to assist Station 4 with an odor of smoke at 303 Chesterfield Avenue. Engine 32 & Rescue 3 responded on the call with 6 members. Ambulance 4 was first unit to arrive and updated correct address to be 301 Homewood Avenue. Crew from Ambulance 4 advised there was a light haze in one of the rooms. Officer 402 (Bloodsworth) arrived on location and assumed Command. After investigating, was deteremined to be a faulty light ballast. Station 3 equipment cleared the call at 0838 hrs.


 
   
   
2013 Installation of Officers

The Members of the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Department, along with numerous invited guest celebrated our Installation of Officers held at the Bay Country Moose Lodge in Queenstown. Just a few of the guests included: Lieutenant Embert from the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office, Lieutenant Boardman from the Maryland State Police Centreville Barrack & Dr. Harry Rhodes.

After a wonderful meal catered by Helen Todd,  Jim Lewis started by introducing the invited guest, followed by President JC Lewis thanking everyone for attending. President Lewis continued by recapping some of the accomplishments of the past year, along with a break down of the hours spent by the volunteers of the department in 2012. Jeff Lewis followed by going over the number of calls run by Station 3 in 2012 along with the top 5 responders. Those being: 1st Place Thomas Nelson, 2nd Place Frank Russum, 3rd Place Lennie Anthony, 4th Place Josh King & 5th Place Matt Bauer. Incoming EMS Captain Ben Wilson thanked all of those who helped with the EMS Department in 2012.

MVA Rt.301 & Rolling Bridge Road

At 8:20 PM Queen Anne’s County dispatched Station 4 (Goodwill), Station 3 (Queenstown), Paramedic 40 and Paramedic 400 for an MVC with entrapment on north bound Route 301 at Rolling Bridge Road. Units arrived on location to find two vehicles involved with both drivers entrapped. Crews from Rescue 4 and Rescue 3 worked on extrication while Engine 41 secured the LZ for Trooper 4. Once both patients were extricated and stabilized they were transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center by Trooper 4.

Sandy Hook Tragedy
   
On the morning of December 14, 2012 the Town of Newtown Connecticut was forever shattered when a gunman entered the Sandy Hook Elementary School.The horrific and unspeakable event that followed, took the lives of 20 innocent children and 6 teachers..

The Officers & the Members of the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend our deepest & most heartfelt sympathy to the families that have been affected by this tragedy.

On December 8th Santa Claus stopped by the Queenstown VFD to wish all the boys and girls from Queenstown and the surrounding areas a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.


 
House Fire in the 4-11 Box

At 2124 hrs. Station 3 was alerted for a house fire at 140 Shady Lane Farm in the 4-11 Box. Engine 32 & Rescue 3 responded on the call with 6 members. Chief 4 (Powell) arrived on location with a 2.5 story house with fire through the roof and requested a tanker task force, bringing additional resources. Chief 4 established Shady Lane Farm command. Fire was knocked at 2152 hrs & command was terminated at 2348 hrs.


 
   
   
Overturned Tractor Trailer on Rt.50
Wednesday, October 10, 2012 
-
At approximately 8:05 PM Queen Anne’s County dispatched Station 2 (Grasonville), Station 1 (Kent Island), Station 3 (Queenstown), Station 9 (United Communities), Paramedic 1 and Paramedic 100 for an MVC involving Hazmat on Route 50 at Exit 42.

Chief 2 (J. Anthony) arrived on location to find several vehicles involved including a heavily damaged tractor trailer with ruptured saddle tanks, Officer 201 (J. Anthony) established command. After patient assessment, Aviation was requested. One patient was transported to a local facility with minor injuries and the truck driver was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center by Trooper 1.

All three lanes of east bound Route 50 remained closed approximately 9 hours while crews cleaned up the wreckage. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Maryland State Police.

MDE, State Highway and Jess JR’s and Sons Towing were also on the scene.

At approximately 2145 hrs.  Station 3 was alerted for an MVA on Route 50 & Arrington Road. Chief 3 (T. Nelson) arrived on location to find three vehicles involved and established command. All occupants involved refused treatment.

At 1427 hrs. Station 3 was alerted to assist Talbot County with an MVA on W/B Rt.50 & Rt.404. Engine 33 responded with 4 members. Engine 33 cleared at 1537 hrs.

At 1726 hrs. Station 3 was alerted for an overturned truck on Rt.50 & Arrington Road. Rescue 3, Engine 33 & Chief 3 responded with 6 members. Chief 3 (Nelson) arrived on location with one truck on it's side. Chief 3 established Rt.50 command. Station 3 equipment cleared the scene at 1752 hrs. The scene was turned over to MSP.

At 1532 hrs. Station 3 was alerted for a MVA S/B on Rt.301 & Cherry Lane. Officer 504 arrived on location confirming location was Rt.301 & Greenspring Road. Rescue 3 & Engine 33 responded with 6 members. Rescue 3 arrived on location with 2 vehicles involved, 1 of which was in the median. Officer 307 (Anthony) established Rt.301 command. 3 patients were transported to Q.A. Emergency Center. Equipment cleared the scene at 1611 hrs.
